What merging actually does

A PDF is a container of page objects with a table pointing at them. Merging copies the page objects from each document into one new container and rebuilds the table. Nothing is redrawn, so text remains selectable and searchable, vector graphics stay sharp at any zoom, and embedded images keep their original compression.

That is why a merged file is roughly the sum of its inputs, and why merging then splitting returns you to where you started.

Why the upload matters here

Merging is most often done to documents nobody would email to a stranger: signed contracts, payslips, invoices, scans of identity documents. Every mainstream merge tool uploads them, processes them on a server and promises to delete them later.

BriskFile has nowhere to upload to. The merge happens in a background thread on the machine you are reading this on.

How many PDFs can I merge at once?

There is no limit set by us. The practical ceiling is your device’s memory, since every document is held in RAM while it is being combined. Hundreds of ordinary documents is fine.

Will this reduce the quality of my PDF?

No. Pages are copied structurally, not re-rendered — text stays selectable, vectors stay sharp and images are untouched. The output is the same content in a different arrangement.

Can I merge a password-protected PDF?

If it opens without a password prompt in your PDF reader, BriskFile can usually merge it. A document that genuinely requires a password to open cannot be read without it, and we do not attempt to circumvent that.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole document is processed in your browser by your own processor. This matters more for PDFs than for anything else — contracts, bank statements, medical letters and scanned passports are exactly the documents that should never be handed to a stranger’s server to be reshuffled.

You can confirm it: open the Network tab before you start, or disconnect from the internet entirely. It still works.

    Open the Network tab and convert something — nothing goes out. Or load the page, disconnect, and watch it keep working: the tool is already on your machine, and your file never leaves it.
