How BriskFile crops

The image is scaled until it covers 180 × 180, then the overflow is trimmed — so the aspect ratio is never distorted. By default the trim is centred. Open Crop & rotate and the box is locked to this shape, so you choose which part survives rather than hoping the middle was right.

BriskFile will not enlarge an image beyond its original size unless the target demands an exact size, as print and document formats do. Scaling up invents detail that was never captured, and it always looks worse than leaving it alone.
